Featured Artist Wednesday - Lauren DeFranza
Lauren is a native New Jerseyan, who is currently working as an Interactive Designer, while in her spare time, pursuing her passion for illustrating a graphic novel and learning the guitar. She also greatly enjoys collaborating with artists, not only within the scope of the graphic design field, but also in other creative outlets such as filmmaking and writing.From the designer:
When I was a student at the New England School of Art & Design, I remember how concept developing had no boundaries and it was considered fun in my mind, and this project exemplifies how I love to play in both design and craft. For this student project, I collected imagery and poems from various print and web sources in order to create, ‘The Frontier.’ The idea came from my eccentric uncle, who once declared his newly developed interest in Cowboy poetry months prior to the assignment. It was a genre I had never heard of before, but needless to say it caught my attention.
My knowledge in bookmaking helped inspire the structure of the book itself. The concept applied on the inside of the book was influenced by the emotion and nostalgia behind these poems; therefore breaking down the content and layout into two themes, gives the readers a look into the life and legend of the American cowboy.
